The LA based pop artists Fire Tiger took the stage at the Viper Room on March 16th as part of a genre themed showcase of artists. I rushed down to grab some photos and to finally see the band live on stage. I’ve been a fan of Fire Tiger‘s music since I made a personal discovery of the band, though late in the game, while I was looking for new artists to write about here on SonicMag.
The female fronted act offered me something that I haven’t seen in a lot of local acts around town. It’s not that the band emulates that 80’s era VH-1 sound, there are a lot of bands that pay tribute to that genre. What makes this band stand out to me is that they aren’t deliberately trying to repeat something of the past – what made that era popular was that the artists wrote pop songs, not pop sounds. Fire Tiger simply writes pop songs, and as a result, it fits the mold; however similar to the sounds of the past. It’s new music, and it works, flawlessly.
Here’s a piece of the show.
The band’s full length 2014 debut vinyl and CD are available: HERE
As the band hails from the Buena Park area, fans have a lot of opportunities to see the band perform throughout the Los Angeles area. Of course, the best way to find out where they are is to visit the website and social media pages and keep up with the band.
Here is the band’s video for the song “Energy.”
