Metal Comes to The 2017 Grammys – Gojira, Megadeth, Korn And Metallica All Up For Awards

It’s time to make other arrangements in regards to driving and parking in LA as the 59th annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 12, 2017 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. ET. the city of Los Angeles is known for taking your parking space by eminent domain, which means they will tow your car for the small fee of $900. However, in regards to the awards show, there is a category for “Best Metal Performance” – and the nominees are:

BARONESS – “Shock Me”
GOJIRA – “Slivera”
KORN – “Rotting in Vain”
MEGADETH – “Dystopia”
PERIPHERY – “The Price Is Wrong”

This list of metal attributes that will adron this year’s forthcoming ceremony also include:

Metallica‘s “Hardwired… to Self Destruct” is nominated in the “Best Rock Song” category, while Gojira is nominated in the “Best Rock Album” category for “Magma”. The French metal band will compete for the trophy with Blink-182’s California”, Cage the Elephant’s “Tell Me I’m Pretty”, Panic! At the Disco’s “Death Of A Bachelor”, and Weezer’s self-titled disc. (What people call rock has certainly changed over the years)

Disturbed is nominated in the “Best Rock Performance” category for their frightfully stirring cover of “The Sound Of Silence” live on Conan O’Brien’s ginger freakshow, up against Aalabama Shakes “Joe” Live From Austin City Limits, Beyonce featuring Jack White’s “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, David Bowie “Backstar”, and Twenty One Pilots “Heathens”. (We think Bowie’s going to win in memorium)

The Grammys are voted on by approximately 13,000 Recording Academy members, who are comprised of artists, songwriters, producers and engineers and very few actual rock related personalities. More than 21,700 recordings were submitted for Grammys consideration this year. For 2017 awards, music must have been released between October 1, 2015, and September 30, 2016, in order to be eligible.

This is an interesting fact, as Metallica’s album was released in November 2016.
