The French metal band will compete for the trophy with Blink-182’s “California”, Cage the Elephant’s “Tell Me I’m Pretty”, Panic! At the Disco’s “Death Of A Bachelor”, and Weezer’s self-titled disc. (What people call rock has certainly changed over the years)
Disturbed is nominated in the “Best Rock Performance” category for their frightfully stirring cover of “The Sound Of Silence” live on Conan O’Brien’s ginger freakshow, up against Aalabama Shakes “Joe” Live From Austin City Limits, Beyonce featuring Jack White’s “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, David Bowie “Backstar”, and Twenty One Pilots “Heathens”. (We think Bowie’s going to win in memorium)
The Grammys are voted on by approximately 13,000 Recording Academy members, who are comprised of artists, songwriters, producers and engineers and very few actual rock related personalities. More than 21,700 recordings were submitted for Grammys consideration this year. For 2017 awards, music must have been released between October 1, 2015, and September 30, 2016, in order to be eligible.
This is an interesting fact, as Metallica’s album was released in November 2016.
